Obituary

Wilbert Darrell Lewis, 71, of Stacy, North Carolina, peacefully departed this world on August 30, 2023, at Carteret Health Care.

In honoring his memory, family and friends will gather to celebrate his life with a graveside service to be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 6th at Stacy Community Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Mercer. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 5th at Munden Funeral Home.   (See the link below for the Service Bulletin.)

Wilbert, known to all as Darrell, was born on July 9, 1952, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Wilbert and Sarah Lewis. Being the son of a Marine, their family traveled across the United States living in various cities along the way. However, nothing was better than their beloved home base in the Down East Community of Stacy, North Carolina.

After high school, Darrell continued his education pursuing the field of Lab Technologist, then Anesthesiologist. His final career as a Licensed Registered Nurse played a crucial role in the healthcare field where his skill, empathy, and strong work ethic were a blessing to all those he helped over the years.

Darrell was a man of integrity, with a compassionate soul and a gentle spirit. He was a faithful member of Davis Free Will Baptist Church where he found peace and direction for his life.

Living on the coast, Darrell enjoyed spending time on his boat, where he found it to be relaxing and fun to be on the water. He also enjoyed owning and taking care of his horses along with the freedom and adventure of riding, always appreciating the strength and beauty they possessed. Darrell also enjoyed archery and other recreational activities.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his sisters, Joan Lewis Boyd and her husband Bill of Stacy and Cheryl Lewis Wells of Beaufort; nephews, Timothy Elam of Stacy, Chris Lewis of Hubert, Nicholas Wells of Newport, Derek Wells of Beaufort, Nathaniel Wells of Winterville, and Devin Wells of Beaufort; nieces, Tammy Boyd of Havelock, Tangie Boyd of Beaufort, Laura Clark of Beaufort and Sarah Spaid of Cherry Branch; many loving great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; along with his dog, Little Bit.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his brother, Ricky A. Lewis.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.
