Sumie Ackerman, 86, of Havelock, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Carteret Health Care.

Sumie or “Little Bird” as her church family called her, was a longtime, active, member of First Baptist Church in Havelock. She loved being outdoors and spent a lot of time in her yard gardening. She and her husband both shared a love of fishing and they enjoyed the quality time they got to spend together on the water.

She is survived by her daughters, Clara Doyle of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Mary Ann Reinschild and husband Steve of Hubert, Karen Kearney and husband Henry of Havelock and Debbie Ortega of Kansas City, MO; sons, Freddie Ackerman of Harlowe and Richard Ackerman and wife Stacy of Indiana; grandchildren, David Ackerman, John Doyle, Michael Doyle, Christopher Reinschild, Leah Reinschild, Jamie Reinschild, Amanda Kearney, Justin Kearney, Andrew Ortega, Jenny Ortega, Joy Ortega, Martin Ackerman, Morgan Ackerman, John Ackerman, Julia Ackerman, Jessica Ackerman, Ali Washburn, Shawn Forsythe, and Kyle Livingston; and great-grandchildren, Dezirae Ackerman, David Ackerman Jr., and Mikia Doyle.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Larry Martin Ackerman; parents; son, David Ackerman; and 3 brothers.
