Sonny Wayne Willis

Sonny Wayne Willis, 74, of Harkers Island, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Pruitt Health Care in Sea Level.

A private graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020, at Vergie Mae Cemetery in Harkers Island, officiated by Joel Hancock.

Sonny was born on Harkers Island and was a true Island boy.  He loved the saltwater. He and his wife, Cathy, spent many hours clamming, fishing and going to the Cape. One of Sonny’s favorite past times was going duck hunting with his brother Johnnie Van.  Sonny worked for NC Department of Transportation Bridge Division for 22 years.  He was a loving husband, father and brother.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Cathy Willis of the home; daughter, Angela Michelle Willis of Harkers Island; son, Sonny Courtney Willis of Harkers Island; brother, Johnnie Van Willis of Marshallberg; also, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Allen and Inez Willis, and sister, Judy Brooks.
