Obituary

Sharon "Shari" Lynn Mitchem, a compassionate and generous soul, departed this world on September 5, 2023, at the age of 76.

Sharon, known to all as "Shari", was born on February 7, 1947, in Washington, DC, to the late George and Alma Kidwell. Her family later moved to Hill Crest Heights, Maryland, where she grew up.

Following high school, Sharon embarked on a successful career as a Teller in the Credit Union industry. Her dedication and expertise earned her the respect of colleagues and clients alike. Sharon's meticulous attention to detail and her kind-hearted nature made her a trusted and valued member of the professional community.

Beyond her career, Sharon had a passion for life that was infectious. She found solace in the enchantment of literature, whisking herself away on countless adventures within the pages of her favorite books.

Sharon's favorite character, Eeyore, exemplified her empathetic spirit, always reminding her of the importance of kindness, even in the face of adversity.

Sharon's boundless generosity extended beyond the boundaries of her own life. She reveled in the magic of Christmas, embodying the true spirit of the season by selflessly giving her time and heart to those in need. Her compassion brought joy to countless lives, as she always sought out opportunities to lend a helping hand and make a positive impact on the world around her.

Traveling was an endeavor that brought Sharon great joy and fulfillment. Exploring new destinations and experiences, she would immerse herself in the beauty and diversity of the world. Whether it was basking in the sun on a sandy beach or marveling at historical landmarks, Sharon treasured every moment of her adventures, creating cherished memories to last a lifetime.

Sharon held a deep admiration for the United States Marine Corps, recognizing the immeasurable sacrifices made by those who serve. Their dedication and commitment to protecting our freedom filled her with gratitude and pride.

Above all, Sharon's greatest joy came from being called "GiGi" by her loved ones. She adored her role as a grandmother and great grandmother and embraced it with open arms. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending quality time with her beloved family, creating precious memories, and fostering deep connections that will carry on for generations to come.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her son, James Mitchem and wife Judy of Cedar Point; sister, Linda Goodman and husband Skip of Fredericksburg, MD; 5 granddaughters; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Shari was preceded in death by her husband, William C. "Mitch" Mitchem.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
