Lois was born on August 3, 1944 in Mill Creek, North Carolina, to the late Melton and Leola Arnold. Hard work was no stranger to LoLo, as a youngster she worked in the tobacco fields and spent hours shucking scallops. In her earlier years, she volunteered with EMS where she was known and admired by many in her community as she served as the former Chief of the Broad and Gales Creek EMS for 10 years. As a pioneer in her position, LoLo was proud to be the first female EMS Chief in Carteret County. Her dedicated character also extended to the VFW 9960 in Cedar Point where she was a lifetime member.

LoLo loved to cook for her family and friends and was well known for her delicious clam chowder. She always enjoyed the rhythm of a good song, especially one she could dance to. Riding through the woods on her husband’s “Scout” was another activity that LoLo enjoyed. More than anything, LoLo loved her family and was happiest when they were by her side.

She is survived by her godchild, Angela Clark of Newport; stepchildren, Mary Katherine Dennis of Cape Carteret and Robert Sawyers of Stella; special niece, Marilyn Guthrie and husband Andrew of Broad Creek; grandchildren, Mandi Clark, Millicent Grace Clark, Leah Nichole Sawyers and Kyle Joseph Sawyers; brothers, Linwood Arnold and wife Millie of Morehead City, William Arnold and companion Melinda “Sam” Grimes of Mill Creek, and Mark Arnold of Holly Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 2008, Kyle Sawyers; sister, Nellie Mae Guthrie; and brothers, J.D. Arnold, Shybo Arnold and Larry Arnold.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome or memorial contributions, in memory of Lois, may be made to Broad and Gales Creek EMS at 3010 Highway 24, Newport, NC 28570.
