Obituary
Elizabeth S. Upchurch, 78, of Morehead City, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Carteret Health Care.
A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be announced at a later date.
Elizabeth "Lib" was born and raised in Selma, North Carolina. She spent many years in Raleigh but as a military wife, she traveled extensively. Elizabeth enjoyed her work as a teacher's assistant in Wake and Carteret counties where she impacted numerous young lives. A deeply religious woman, Elizabeth loved the Lord and read her Bible faithfully every day.
In her free time, Elizabeth loved being in her garden, planting, nurturing, and sharing the harvest it produced. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and good southern home cooking (and, of course, anything chocolate).
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Karen Taylor and husband Jay, and Lisa Johnson and husband Cory, all of Morehead City, NC; sister, Marsha Gibbs and husband Kenny of Engelhard, NC; brother, James Sanders and wife Peggy of Immokalee, FL; grandchildren, Shelby, Samuel, Zackary, Claire; and lifelong friend and former husband, Retired Colonel Robert H. Upchurch. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Ann Martin.
