CW04 Joe Simcox, USMC Retired, 84, of Havelock, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at Vidant Medical Center.

A celebration of Clarke’s life will be held at a later date.

Joe was born on July 3, 1936, in Centralia, Illinois. He proudly served 20 years in the United States Marines and retired in June of 1974. The patriotism for his country remained strong throughout his life. He devoted himself to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 26 of Havelock where he served as Treasurer and Adjutant, helping veterans of all ages, and their families, get the health, disability, and financial benefits they earned.

Following the military, Joe worked at Auto Dealerships and in Real Estate. His hard work, stellar ethics and honesty earned him the Man of the Year for Havelock. It also allowed him to serve as President of the Havelock Board of Realtors. On June 21, 2005, Joe was given the honor of the Joe Simcox Day for the City of Havelock.

Joe was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and beloved Papa. He rarely missed his children’s ball games and was always their biggest fan.

He is survived by his wife, Nan Simcox of the home; daughter, Martha Simcox of Mint Hill, NC; sons, Clarke J. Simcox Jr. and wife Anna of Huntsville, AL, Timothy Simcox of Raleigh, NC, Patrick Simcox and wife Laura of High Point, NC, and Kevin Simcox and wife Jean of Havelock; sisters, Judy Wernsman of Brownsburg, IN and Carol Johnson and husband Harry of Normal, IL; brother, Rick Chambers and wife Jeanette of Effingham, IL; and grandchildren, Kyle Simcox, Drew Simcox, Allyson Simcox, Joey Simcox, Kaley Simcox, and Henry Simcox.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Chambers and her husband Chester, who he considered his father.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions, in memory of Clarke, may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 26, 468 US Highway 70 W, Havelock, NC 28532 or to the Wounded Warriors Project at P.O. Box 758517, Topeka KS 66675.
