March 22, 1947 — October 8, 2021

Havelock

Anthony “Tony” Verdelotti of Havelock, NC, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021.  He will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends.

Born in Providence, RI, he graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School before joining the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he met and later married the love of his life, Maria Torres.  They had one child together, Antonio, and they traveled the country as a family as his postings required.  After more than 20 years of service to his country, he retired to the Hampton Roads area where he had previously been stationed.  He soon started working at the Norfolk Naval Aviation Depot before relocating to the FRCE at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point base in Havelock, North Carolina.  After 20+ years of time working in Civil Service, he decided to retire and spend more time around the house.

Tony was a proud Italian-American from the northeast, who later found home in Havelock, North Carolina. Although, he never lost “yous guys” for its southern counterpart, “y’all.”  In his spare time, Tony enjoyed rooting for his favorite sports teams, the New York Giants and the New York Yankees; waking up early on Saturday mornings and watching English Premier League soccer while enjoying an extra-large cup of black coffee. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, growing various spices and vegetables and striking up conversations with anyone he met--“He never met a stranger. Every person in the world, to him, was just a friend he hadn’t met yet.”

Tony is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maria A. Verdelotti; son Antonio “Tonio/Bud” D. Verdelotti (Crystal); and granddaughters, Gabriella “Mina” V. Bond (Dylan) and Gianna “Gigi” M. Verdelotti.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Rose Verdelotti.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 PM Monday, October 18, 2021 at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Dr. in Hampton, Virginia.  Immediately following at 2:00 pm, a funeral service will be conducted.  Burial will be at Albert G. Horton Jr Memoria Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the Wounded Warriors Project, https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.

Arrangements are by Munden Funeral Home & Crematory, Morehead City and Berceuse Funeral Home in Hampton, Virgina.
