Bertley "Duncan" Willis, 88, of Harkers Island, was born October 20, 1923. He passed away quitely at his home on April 22, 2012.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery.  

Duncan was a life long boat builder and commercial fisherman. He never met a stranger and his love of God was his top priority in life. He was also a lifetime member of Harkers Island Pentecostal Church. He loved his family very much and never turned anyone away from his home. He was loved by many people and hated by no one. He was a wonderful and understanding father, grandfather, or friend.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sophia , whom he was married to on July 16th 1940. His children are; Nancy Sue Willis of the home, Al Duncan and wife Mary and Fernie Byron and wife Sue all of Davis, Lemuel Darrell and wife Myrna of Otway, and Bertley Paul and wife Sharon of Harkers Island; daughter-in-law, Patsy Willis of Beaufort; three sisters, Ruth Lewis and Lina Mae Yeomans both of Harkers Island, and Sandra Kay Willis of Otway; five brothers, Henry Willis, James Harry Willis, Lee Willis, Guyon Willis, and Michael Willis all of Harkers Island; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, along with his two special friends, Kimo and Deizi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie and Lina Willis, two sons, Jackie Cooper and Terry Lee Willis, two brothers, Roger and Paul Willis, and sister, Lina Mae Willis.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday at the church.

Extending my love and prayers to my entire family. I find solice knowing he is not suffering anymore. I know that loved ones met him on the other sife and now I have 2 wonderful grandfathers to meet me at the gates.
